Most stunning scenery yet – how does it just keep getting better???
I didn’t actually have to drive over snow but certainly drove through it on the mountain road, so i’ll start you off with a naughty video to give you some idea…..
The first three pics in the gallery below show you yet another unexpected ferry journey: this time about 15 minutes from Mannholler to Fodnes. What is special about this one for me is that directly after leaving the ferry you dive into a 12 mile long tunnel, it feels very weird. If you look really closely at the second pic you can just about make out the entrance to the tunnel.
The second set of three pics show my first encounter with a Norwegian glacier: the Boyabreen glacier in the Josteldalsbreen National Park. Some enterprising Norwegian has set up a well run restaurant just below the snout of the glacier and they fixed me up with a very welcome deer burger……
For some reason i was then surprised to find Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 sitting in a Fjord at Olden!!! As you know she was built as a transatlantic steamer but there’s not a lot of demand for that these days, so there she was on a cruise in Northern Europe…. Still does some Southampton to New York crossings if you are nostalgic for that!!!
Then another three pics of the detour I took across the snowfields.

This rather lovely final pic is coming down the mountain from the snowfields towards the beautiful town of Geiranger where we spend two nights: this will give me a chance to catch up on my sleep and rest up!!!
