The folks who put this trip together knew what they were doing when they gave us two nights at the splendid Union Hotel here in Geiranger.

It’s not so much the driving, although yesterday was swarming with a few dozen hairpins which are easily the most physically tough type of road feature to cope with, especially in a car without PAS – even if it doesn’t weigh very much!!! More significant for me was only getting four or five hours sleep on the two longish ferry journeys – so i slept until 8:30 this morning and felt much better for it!
We enjoyed another great buffet dinner last night, not quite as good as in Flam but streets ahead of the usual fare on hotel buffets! I’m looking forward to giving it another go tonight, but will not bother with the locally made Brown Ale with which i experimented last night….
Maybe you assumed the use of the word ‘we’ was what the English call the ‘Royal We’ as in ‘We Are Not Amused’. Nope. There is one other car following the same trail as yours truly: occupied by John and his wife Alison. I have been longing to include a pic of their car, a 1961 Jaguar XK150, so here it is:

Geiranger is a favoured destination for cruise ships exploring the Norwegian fjords, so we see lots of tourists ambling around the place or off on their coach trips to the various viewpoints that can be reached in a couple of hours.
Shouldn’t be snobby about it, i guess, helps to build up the tourism infrastructure for folks like us….
Some more shots for you from around Geiranger…..

I especially like the pic of the Russian super yacht sitting quietly in this Norwegian Fjord minding its own business…. that’s a wild guess on my part of course, but although you cannot see it clearly that looks suspiciously like a Russian blue white and red flag on the mast!!!
Now looking forward to getting back on the road tomorrow, with the drive to Molde via the Trollstigen Mountain Route and the Eagle Road, two seriously challenging drives. We also have one more ‘unplanned’ ferry ride: from Eidsdal to Linge across the Stordfjorden, the 5th longest fjord in Norway at almost 70 miles! It is a different strand of the same fjord that ends at Geiranger. The voyage takes just 13 minutes but saves going round the long way via Tafjord… The total driving distance tomorrow is pretty modest at just under 100 miles but more hairpins than i can count!!!
Hopefully lots more wonderful pics for you……
Pictures and videos are great T, nice to see the photo ofJohn and his lovely Jaguar, British Racing Green of course. Pleased that you have this opportunity to catch your breath and enjoy the surroundings before heading off again tomorrow., my guess is you don’t get the chance to take in much when you are dealing with all of those hairpins xx
