Day 16: In and around Honningsvag

There we were last night in Honningsvag John, Alison and I having finished an enjoyable meal, me having consumed sufficient alcohol to believe i had appropriately celebrated getting to the Top of the World, when in the space of 20 minutes the weather changed dramatically!!!

Being used to weather changes on the mountains i ought not to have been surprised, but i cannot ever remember seeing such a marked change in such a short period of time…

We went from wall to wall sunshine 25c, no breeze at all to 12c and something approaching a howling gale: here is a short vid to give you some idea….

By just after midnight things had calmed down a little and it looked as if our weather would continue to be the barmy semi tropical we had enjoyed almost since arriving in Norway……..

…but it was not to be and as these next pics show we were greeted by heavy skies, strong winds and temperatures about 12c the next morning:

Honningsvag is a small city with population of 2,500, although a few more than that this time of year. Still, having walked around it in 45 minutes there is not a lot more to see and the weather continued to be the most interesting thing about the day: we wound up with ‘sunny intervals’ between periods of low and heavy cloud, but no rain!!! Here’s a vid:

Small or not, Honningsvag is a pituresque little fishing village despite being officially designated as a City…..

Margie was disappointed to hear that the Christmas House was closed: she wanted me to buy her a Norwegian Christmas gnome…..

….actually Norway does a nice line in Trolls and i have promised to buy her one if i can find them!!!

Back in the car tomorrow, but in my leather flying jacket and long trousers this time for a short canter to Karasjok, our final stop in Norway ahead of the mad dash down through Finland to catch the ferry to Germany from Helsinki…

More of that anon…..
