The Current Adventure: New Year in San Francisco and a South West US Road Trip

On 28th December, Margie and I are off to celebrate New Year in San Francisco with our younger son Will and his French lady Marion Brossard, as the guests of her parents Gerard and Nathalie who have lived in that part of the world for a couple of decades.

Here’s the latest weather headline on the BBC:

US winter storm to bring coldest Christmas in decades!!!

A major winter storm sweeping the US this week may bring the coldest Christmas in four decades to parts of the country, say forecasters.

Ooh-err…..

The brief stay in San Francisco as the guests of Marion’s parents will followed by a Road Trip in a convertible 5 litre Mustang down the Pacific Highway, past LA and Hollywood to San Diego, then head north-east inland to The Grand Canyon: current predicted overnight temperature up there is about minus 10c… so we may have to give it a miss. Cold we can manage but snow will probably cause us to miss the Grand Canyon, sadly, but snow chains are mandatory and Avis are not terribly keen on us putting snow chains on their nice Mustang…..

Still, we should be OK for Las Vegas and Death Valley via Kingman on Route 66 before cruising back to San Francisco to spend a few days doing the tourist thing in the Golden Gate City. And then our long flight home……

Gotta be done….!
