The Latest Adventure: New Year in San Francisco and a South West US Road Trip

Remember this??

US winter storm to bring coldest Christmas in decades!!!

For once the media were not exaggerating….. Over Christmas and into the New Year, Southern California experienced a succession of ‘atmospheric rivers’ coming in from the Pacific with unprececented amounts of rain and furious winds. Almost 200,000 folks were left without power following flash floods, landslides, fallen trees and avalanches. Sadly, about 30 people died as a result of the storms.

How did we get on??? We were stunningly lucky: this savage weather was relentess for all but the last few days of our stay… somehow we managed to dodge the worst of it: we got wet a few times but managed to avoid most of the road closures and other disasters! Our closest shave was at the Grand Canyon where the day after we left they were hit with two feet of snow which would surely have seen us stranded up there until the roads could be cleared….

I am sorry we were not able to provide you with ‘real time’ Posts: the whole trip was so intense we simply could not cope!!! Since we got back to Berkshire it’s been one thing after another and this is the first real chance i have had to post….

Over the next few days i will strive to provide you with some pics and descriptions of our adventures – which they certainly were!!!

Watch this space…..

Tony
