The Mode of Transport

This is my Caterham 420R which i have owned for just over a year and completed 7,000 miles. My previous Caterham was a RoadSport 125 which in which i drove a little over 50,000 miles.

It makes such a wonderful noise, i am tempted to put up an audio file of the tickover!!! It will give you goosebumps [assuming you are a car nut like me, of course…..]

You perhaps know that these machines are built for racing, and lots of folks do that: Caterham run specific events for different models of their cars and these races are immensely popular. But I am far too old for that stuff, so i just use mine for touring!

If you are interested in such things, the car has a 2 litre Ford Duratec engine on which Caterham have worked their magic such that it generates 215 bhp which gets it from 0-60 in a shade under four seconds. It uses standard E-10 unleaded fuel and does 20-25 mpg depending on how you drive it. I’m expecting a good deal less on some of those mountain roads in Norway. I’ll also have to be very careful about fuel – the car has a tiny motor bike size petrol tank that only holds about 25 litres!!!
